Dart Bikes For Charity #DartTransitBlueBike
31 May 2018
This year Dart Transit Company made its return to compete in the 2018 Blue Bike Challenge. The challenge, which is hosted by Blue Cross/Blue Shield, takes place each year at the Minneapolis Convention Center during the Blue Cross Summit. Dart was up against fierce competitors this year from companies such as Land O’ Lakes, Allina Health, Anoka County and Antea USA.
On Monday, May 14, the social media engagement portion of the event began. Each post on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram containing the hashtag “#DartTransitBlueBike” earned our company a point. The team with the most social media points was given $2,500 to donate to the charity of their choice. Dart employees, drivers, family members and local supporters tallied a total of 1,911 social media posts which landed us in second place behind Anoka County.
On Tuesday, May 15, the teams began the biking competition. Each team made up of seven individuals logged strenuous miles on stationary bikes all day long. The team with the most miles would earn $2,500 to donate to the charity of their choosing. The Dart team consisted of seven courageous employees from our corporate office in Eagan, MN. Chad Edwards (Operations), Michele Herntier (Information Systems), Bea Hotzler (Operations), Jacob Holland (Eagan Trailer Shop), Alex Petrov (Operations), Spencer Viele (Business Analytics) and Dave Seppala (Operations) logged a combined total of 460 miles on their stationary bikes.
In the end, Dart Transit Company was awarded $500 for their participation and efforts in this competition. The prize was donated to Dart’s chosen charity: The Arc Minnesota. The Arc Minnesota helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families with information and personal support. This charity offers education, training and personal advocacy for those parties. For more information about this charity, visit www.arcminnesota.org
We would like to thank our team of seven for their hard work and dedication to this charitable exercise. Also, thank you to everyone who helped support our team via social media throughout the Blue Bike Challenge. We appreciate everyone coming together to help support Dart and raise money for a good cause. As a family-owned company, we understand the importance of giving back to our community and lending a hand to those who need it. Dart Transit Company is proud to participate in events like these and we hope to be back next year to help raise more money for a local charity.
