Answers to frequently asked questions from owner operators
Is there an age limit, or make/model restriction on trucks? No – as long as your tractor passes DOT requirements and our thorough inspection, it is eligible to contract with Dart Transit.
Do you reimburse for tolls and scales? We reimburse for all tolls (except FL and KS) and scales, otherwise, you could take advantage of EZ Pass and PrePass.
Do I have to go to NYC or Canada? No!
How often can I get paid? With most operations, YOU decide when you get paid for the work that you’ve done – you could settle after every load if you’d like!
How can I make money with high fuel prices? Dart contractors are particularly well insulated from the high cost of fuel with our strong, responsive fuel adjustment, and our extensive fuel network. Contractors literally save millions each year just by purchasing fuel within our fuel network!
What if I don’t have good credit? Highway Sales doesn’t exclusively go by credit when determining who can get approved for a lease purchase truck. They also look at your work history and job stability – your credit score is only one part of the process.
What kind of support is there if I have questions? You’ll have an excellent support system as a contractor with Dart Transit. You’ll start off with a New Contractor Fleet Manager to help you get acclimated, but you’ll also have access to our contractor Advocate Team to help you improve aspects of your business. Everyone in our offices wants you to succeed and is there to help you.
How do I get freight? Your fleet manager and load planner will work with you to find the freight that you need to stay profitable.
Can I be a company driver for you? There are two small fleets, Dartco, Inc. and Dart Express, Inc., that contract with Dart. You could be a fleet driver for them if you’re not ready to be an owner operator just yet.
What is your fuel surcharge? Our fuel adjustment responds quickly to shifting fuel prices, so it changes frequently to ensure that you are fairly compensated for the high cost of fuel.
How much experience do I need? We require 12 months of over-the-road tractor trailer experience within the past three years in order to qualify for Dart.
What kind of trucks do you have? Highway Sales has both new and used trucks available. Purchase a new 2012 Volvo 630. Or get into a 2005-2007 Freightliner Columbia, 2005-2007 International 9400i, or 2007 Volvo 670.
How often can I get home? Depending on which operation you choose and what you’d like for home time, you could get home anywhere from 10-14 days to every night.
